Cheslie Kryst has officially begun her Miss USA duties after wrapping a media tour in New York City, appearing on Good Morning America, LIVE with Kelly and Ryan, AOL Build Series, and more. Throughout the tour, Kryst shared more about her continued advocacy for Dress for Success, an organization that empowers women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire, and the development tools to help women thrive in work and in life. Kryst is a full-time complex litigation attorney licensed to practice law in two states. Passionate about criminal justice reform, she has worked pro bono with clients serving long-term sentences for low level drug offenses. Additionally, the Charlotte native runs a fashion blog, White Collar Glam, which focuses on work wear fashion tips for women and resources for affordable apparel in the workplace. Recently named a Dress for Success Impact Ambassador, Kryst will continue advocating for the organization while also supporting causes on behalf of MUO.

Kaliegh Garris made headlines when she was crowned Miss Teen USA wearing her natural hair and has become an inspiration to young women everywhere. The 18-year-old has been featured on Daily Mail TV, Refinery29, Essence, People,, and more. Garris, who is a dual-enrolled high school student and competitive dancer, plans to attend Southern Connecticut State University in the fall concentrating on a nursing degree. Throughout her year as Miss Teen USA, Garris will continue to expand her personal initiative, “We Are People 1st,” a program that educates others on ways to respectfully speak to, and about, individuals with disabilities.

Cheslie Kryst’s Miss USA victory completed a historic trifecta joining Miss Teen USA Kaliegh Garris and Miss America Nia Franklin as the first three women of color to simultaneously hold the national titles from the three major national pageants. The ladies most notably appeared on CBS This Morning with Gayle King to discuss the history-making moment, goals for their respective reigns, and how they will continue challenging beauty standards and breaking stereotypes.

Smile Train recently celebrated 20 years of providing free cleft treatment to children with clefts in underprivileged communities globally. Through the generosity of its supporters and directors, The Miss Universe Organization raised nearly $100,000 for Smile Train, while the entire gala raised over $1M. Additionally, Paula M. Shugart was one of four impactful honorees to receive a Smile Maker Award for being a driving force behind MUO and Smile Train’s partnership, bringing increasing awareness to the world’s leading cleft charity. Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach, Miss USA 2015 Olivia Jordan, and Miss Teen USA 2018 Hailey Colborn attended the 20th Anniversary Gala where they accepted the award and spoke to the longstanding charitable partnership which has fostered opportunities for state and national representatives in the MUO pageant system. Additionally, Miss Kentucky Teen USA 2019 Emma Johns recently raised $1,000 for the organization through personal fundraising efforts.

Miss Universe Catriona Gray has been inducted as the newest Madrina of the Latino Commission on AIDS where she will serve as the organization’s 2019 ambassador. Throughout the year, Gray will continue her support for the global fight against HIV/AIDS and lend her voice to education and awareness within the Latino community across the United States. Gray’s advocacy in partnership with the Latino Commission on AIDS adds to the work she has achieved alongside other organizations including LoveYourself Philippines and Apicha. Additionally, Gray recently attended New York City’s annual AIDS Walk which helped raise over $4M for Gay Men’s Health Crisis, a charitable alliance of The Miss Universe Organization.

United Nations Watch announced that Miss Universe Iraq 2017 Sarah Idan will receive the 2019 Ambassador For Peace Award in recognition of her courageous and extraordinary actions to promote tolerance, build bridges for peace, and spread a message of hope and unity. The prize will be presented to Idan at a Geneva ceremony attended by senior diplomats of the U.N. Human Rights Council. Idan’s honor comes in response to the courage she displayed over the last several years, and has propelled her mission for love and peace across the Middle East through her program, Forward Humanity.

Miss USA Cheslie Kryst and Miss Teen USA Kaliegh Garris appeared in the 15th annual National Memorial Day Parade in Washington, D.C. to support Lions Club International, an organization that empowers individuals to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace, and promote international understanding. The Lions held a special tribute honoring all veterans and particularly the heroes who made the supreme sacrifice by giving their lives for their country. Kryst and Garris appeared in the parade alongside the Lions and participated in a meet and greet with servicemen and women from across the USA.

The 2019 Miss USA contestants were welcomed by the Nevada State Legislature, the United States’ first state legislature to hold a female majority, ahead of the 2019 MISS USA® competition. The contestants met with Lieutenant Governor Kate Marshall and Majority Floor Leader Teresa Benitez-Thompson who both addressed the importance of female perspective in all industries, while encouraging them to continue utilizing their platforms to influence life-changing work. Lieutenant Governor Kate Marshall, who is dedicated to promoting science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) economic development and entrepreneurship, had several contestants speak to their experiences as women working in STEM fields.

Miss USA Cheslie Kryst attended Operation That’s My Dress in support of New York’s 31st annual Fleet Week, a week-long celebration of the sea services. USO Operation That’s My Dress provides an opportunity for military teens, female service members, and spouses to select a brand new gown or cocktail dress for any occasion. Kryst spent the afternoon with the women, helping to pick out dresses from some of the most recognizable names in fashion.

Miss USA Cheslie Kryst traveled back to her hometown of Charlotte to crown Laura Little who will resume the responsibilities as Miss North Carolina USA 2019. Little, a 23-year-old Charlotte resident, attends the University of North Carolina Greensboro where she is a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. Additionally, Little supports the Seacrest Studios at Levine Children’s Hospital where she hosts her own weekly radio show for patients and their families.

Cheslie Kryst attended “Kicking It With Cam,” an annual celebrity kickball tournament in her home state hosted by Carolina Panthers’ quarterback Cam Newton. Kicking It With Cam raises money for The Cam Newton Foundation which enhances the lives of young people by addressing their socioeconomic, educational, physical, and emotional needs. Kryst supported the event alongside various professional athletes including Evander Holyfield, Myles Garret, Terrell Owens, and others.

Miss USA 2017 Kára McCullough will host her 2nd Annual Take Flight with SE4K interactive science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) Workshop in June. The interactive workshop is part of McCullough’s nonprofit organization, Science Exploration for Kids, which cultivates an understanding for STEAM, and advocates for students to explore careers in the fields. Take Flight with SE4K includes a day of team building through hands-on science activities and challenges. McCullough works to inspire youth to learn and love STEAM education, believing that with learning, all children are natural born scientists and engineers.
