The 2019 Miss USA Competition Set to Air Live from Reno Tahoe May 2 on FOX

The 2019 MISS USA® Competition will take place inside Grand Sierra Resort and Casino’s (GSR) Grand Theatre, located in Reno Tahoe on Thursday, May 2 (8:00-10:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed) on FOX. Actress, host and former pageant winner Vanessa Lachey and multi-Platinum recording artist and television personality Nick Lachey return as hosts for the annual event, marking the second time the two will take the Miss USA stage together. Holding the title of Miss Teen USA 1998, as well as Miss Congeniality, Vanessa is a pageant veteran and has also served as a backstage correspondent for MISS USA® in 2001 and co-host of MISS UNIVERSE® in 2007. Additionally, MISS TEEN USA® will take place just days prior to MISS USA® on Sunday, April 28. For a second consecutive year, the schedules of two of The Miss Universe Organization’s premier events for women across the country will coincide allowing fans to celebrate the Miss USA and Miss Teen USA state representatives together.

Miss Universe Catriona Gray was honored by the Senate of the Philippines during her official homecoming celebration. During a courtesy call to Senate President Vicento Sotto III, Gray was recognized for her victory in the 2018 MISS UNIVERSE® competition with Sotto noting that she “deserves nothing better than a high level of praise.” Additionally, Gray was welcomed by Senators Nancy Binay and Gregorio Honasan as well as other Senate officials and employees. During her visit, Gray called on the senators to support and empower young Filipinos within the community.

Miss Universe Vietnam 2018 H’Hen Nie has been named as one of Forbes Vietnam’s “50 Most Influential Vietnamese Women 2019.” This year’s list features women from diverse fields such as politics, education, communications, athletics and more. Women featured on Forbes Vietnam’s list are determined by their general influence on their community, the degree of positive impacts made and the coverage they’ve received in the media. Nie earned her place by donating her entire cash prize from Miss Universe Vietnam winnings to her community, providing scholarships for underprivileged students and building libraries in rural areas and through representing Vietnam, finishing in the Top 5 at the 67th  MISS UNIVERSE® competition.

Miss Universe 2017 Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters joined a panel of influential women in the business, sports, science, entertainment and leadership industries at the 2019 Forbes Africa Leading Women Summit. The summit brings influential women together to discuss a wide range of topics to help teach and inspire attendees. Nel-Peters shared her pageantry journey and reflected on the platform it has provided to create a positive impact not only on her South African community, but across the world. During the summit, which took place on International Women’s Day, Nel-Peters reminded her audience to continue being “fearlessly feminine” and “confidently beautiful.”  


Pia Wurtzbach Becomes First Filipino to Receive Wax Figure From Madame Tussauds

Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach became the first Filipino to receive a wax figure from Madame Tussauds, the major tourist attraction displaying the waxworks of famous and historic people. The figure depicts the actress and former queen in a replica of the Micheal Cinco gown she wore during her final walk as Miss Universe. Wurtzbach’s figure was revealed in Manila, and will be permanently displayed at the museum’s Hong Kong branch in April. Additionally, Wurtzbach can currently be seen on MEGA Magazine’s March cover in honor of Women’s History Month where she spoke to the Philippine’s popular fashion magazine on how she is redefining what it means to be a woman.

Miss Teen USA 2018 Hailey Colborn visited the Kansas State Capitol where she was recognized on the Senate Floor by the Kansas Senator and Senator Oletha Faust-Goudeau. They joined in congratulating Colborn on her achievement of being crowned Miss Teen USA 2018 and commended her for her “extraordinary record” of service throughout her community and the state of Kansas.

Miss Universe Zambia 2018 Melba Shakaboza was selected to speak on an all-women panel of “Vision Voices” at the 2019 United Nations Youth Forum at the UN headquarters in New York. Shakaboza joined Hollywood actress Sara Rowe and other young women activists from the United States and United Kingdom to discuss social protection systems, access to public services, sustainable infrastructure for gender equality and female empowerment.

Miss Universe Catriona Gray, Miss USA Sarah Rose Summers and Miss Teen USA Hailey Colborn celebrated the 30th anniversary of Best Buddies at The Miss Universe Organization office in New York. Best Buddies, a charitable partner of MUO, is dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Miss Universe, Miss USA and Miss Teen USA joined Best Buddies in celebrating a milestone of creating important opportunities for inclusion across the world.

Miss Universe 2005 Natalie Glebova celebrated International Women’s Day with her “Women Uplift Women” campaign in Bangkok, Thailand. The event focused on examining and addressing intra-gender equality issues among women, including women to women bullying and discrimination. The event featured 30 women from different fields in a series of photographs who also shared experiences of when they have been empowered or uplifted by another woman. Glebova’s event had a goal of encouraging all women to support one another by promoting the phrase, “Stop Competing, Start Uplifting!”

Miss Vermont Teen USA 2016 Tammy Vujanovic, a student at the University of Mississippi and Founder and President of “Ole Miss Smile Makers,” launched a new club that supports the international children’s charity. Members of the organization work with Smile Train and serve the Oxford and Lafayette communities as advocates, leaders and future health professionals. Vujanovic’s recent inception of Ole Miss Smile Makers is Smile Impact Society’s (SIS) first university program. SIS is an international collective of students dedicated toward furthering Smile Train’s sustainable approach to cleft treatment.

On International Women’s Day, Miss Universe Barbados 2018 Meghan Theobalds attended the panel, HER STORY—Journeys to Leadership, as a special guest. Theobalds met some of the panelists including Barbados Prime Minister, Mia Mottley, and former Prime Minister, Kamla Persaus-Bissessar. The all-female panel shared personal stories to their respective careers and encouraged those in attendance to continue making pathways for other women by rising above glass ceilings.

During her visit to Jakarta, Miss Universe Catriona Gray met Indonesian President Joko Widodo. Catriona was joined by Miss Universe Indonesia 2019 Frederika Alexis Cull whom she crowned the night before as well as all the Puteri Indonesia contestants at the Presidential Palace in Bogor.

Miss Universe Panama 2018 Rosa Montezuma led the parade of the Estacio de Sá during the 2019 Carnival of Rio de Janeiro. Montezuma was accompanied by national artists including Margarita Henríquez and the Afrodiciaco Group, who together recorded the Spanish version of the batucada, an African-influenced percussive style.

A French artist painted a portrait of Miss Universe 2016 Iris Mittenaere that was sold at a community auction in France. The artwork was sold in support of Smile Train, a charitable partner of The Miss Universe Organization that provides free cleft repair surgery and care in underprivileged communities. Mittenaere’s portrait contributed to the over $40k that was raised.
